Learning Pathways overview

A Learning Pathway automatically assigns tailored training courses to users based on their individual learning level and needs.

For administrators, identifying which users should receive which course can be challenging. Users may also disengage when content is not relevant to their skill level. Learning Pathways solve this by delivering personalised training journeys for every user, built around an assessment you can make your own with custom questions.

Why use Learning Pathways
  • The right training, automatically: users are matched to the course that suits their level and needs, so you don't have to work out who should take what.
  • More relevant, more engaging: training that fits the learner holds attention, which makes users more likely to complete it.
  • Tailored to your organisation: add custom questions so the assessment reflects your own policies and priorities.
  • Flexible delivery: launch through MyCompliance, or export to your own LMS.
How Learning Pathways work
Simple option

Create an assessment from the Question Bank and assign it to your users. Choose from hundreds of curated cyber security questions, add your own custom questions to reflect your organisation's policies, or combine both.

You choose the courses and set the score ranges (bandings) when you create the pathway. Then, based on the score achieved, the system automatically assigns the most appropriate of your chosen courses. This ensures learners receive training at the right level.

Bandings link score ranges to the course each user is assigned

Example

  • User scores 20%: assigned the High Risk course
  • User scores 50%: assigned the Medium Risk course
  • User scores 100%: assigned the Low Risk course

Example Simple option: the user completes the assessment, and their score of 0-33%, 34-66% or 67-100% assigns a High, Medium or Low Risk course, which they are taken straight into

Enhanced option

In addition to the assessment, you can enable a Smart Path question to provide another layer of personalisation. This question can be tailored to your requirements, giving users a customised route based on their response.

Depending on the user's answer, they may:

  • Skip the assessment and proceed directly to a specific course linked to their Smart Path response
  • Complete the assessment, and then be directed to a course based on both their Smart Path response and assessment score
  • Complete the assessment, and then be directed to a course based on their assessment score

This approach creates a more dynamic and personalised learning experience.

Example Smart Path: users select their department and either skip the assessment to open their matching course, or complete the cyber security assessment and are assigned a High, Medium or Low Risk course based on their score

What your users see

Here is the journey for a user, from opening the pathway to starting the course that suits them.

1. Smart Path question (if enabled). Users choose the department that best matches their role.

2. Assessment welcome. Users are told the assessment will help recommend the most appropriate course content for them.

3. The assessment. Users answer one question at a time, with a progress bar and a language selector.

4. Their score. Users see how they did and are invited to continue to their personalised course.

5. Their assigned course. Users are taken straight into the course matched to their score or Smart Path answer.

Custom questions in your assessment

Make your assessment speak directly to your organisation. Add your own custom questions to the Question Bank, link each one to an existing category, and publish it. It is then available alongside the curated questions when you build a pathway assessment.

For full details, see the Question Bank article. To build a pathway, see How to create a Learning Pathway.

Delivering your pathway

Once your pathway is created, you can deliver it in two ways.

  • Via MyCompliance: choose your target users and set your notification preferences in the Launch Setup section.
  • Via an external LMS: export the entire pathway as a SCORM package (see External capabilities, below).
External capabilities

For organisations using a third party LMS but still wanting to benefit from MetaCompliance training content and personalisation, the entire Learning Pathway can be exported as a SCORM package.

The SCORM package can include:

  • Smart Path question
  • Assessment
  • Up to 30 course options

All bundled into a single zip file as a SCORM Transfer course.

Languages

Smart Path questions, assessments, and course content can be created in up to 46 languages, ensuring accessibility for global teams.

Reporting: MyCompliance

Within the MyCompliance platform, reporting includes:

  • Overall Learning Pathway completion summary
  • Detailed assessment analytics, including questions answered and scores achieved
  • Employee results table showing:
    • Pathway completion status
    • Assessment responses
    • Assigned course
    • Course progress

Assessment statistics in MyCompliance: users completed, average score and average score by category

Reporting: external LMS

Reporting within third party LMS platforms may be limited due to SCORM restrictions. However, we use the cmi.suspend_data attribute to communicate:

  • The Smart Path option selected by the user
  • The course assigned based on their response

This ensures essential data is still captured and passed back to your LMS.
