Course Certificates (Pre-release April 2025)

When assigning a course to users, you can award the user with a certificate of completion once they successfully pass the course.

There are currently two available certificate options:

  1. Custom Certificate – Upload your own company certificate
  2. System Certificate – MetaCompliance template certificate

Customising your Certificates

Each of these options can be customised to align with your company requirements.

1. Custom Certificate

You can upload your company’s certificate template to be presented to users as they complete their assigned courses. This option will provide an additional layer of personalisation for your users, which can help to encourage adoption.

To use this option, you must follow the recommendations below regarding your certificate template and the required placeholders.

Placeholders (Important Guidelines)

  1. To populate the user’s information on the certificate, you must include the following placeholders exactly as listed below:
    • [UserName]
    • [CourseName]
    • [Date]
  2. Placeholders must be added as text; they cannot be within an image.
  3. Try to keep your placeholders positioned to the left of the certificate. This is to ensure the text does not trail off the PDF.
  4. We recommend that the background is white in the areas where the placeholder text has been positioned.
  5. Placeholders will work best if added to the certificate on their own line to ensure the text doesn't overlap with any of the existing text.
  6. Text will always begin at the start of the placeholder, so ensure the placeholder is positioned in an area that ensures text will always be displayed.
  7. The font size of the placeholder will also be the size of the text when replaced, so ensure your font is not too big or small when adding the placeholders.
  8. Test your certificate by completing a course before assigning users.

Once you have created your certificate, using the guidelines above, you can then upload.

  • To upload your certificate, navigate to Settings > Certificates.
  • Select +Upload Certificate.

  • Enter the Certificate Name.
  • Upload your certificate in PDF format, ensuring you have reviewed the guidelines above in relation to placeholders.
  • Once you have confirmed that your placeholders are present and aligned with the guidelines, check the confirmation box.
  • Finally, select Publish Certificate.

Please note: The system will not automatically validate if your placeholders are correct; it is important that you do this before uploading any certificates.

Once successfully uploaded, your certificate is now available to select within the 'Course Publish' area.

  1. Navigate to Learning > Course Publish > Settings > Select Certificate Type > Custom Certificate.
  2. All certificates that have been uploaded will be available within the certificate drop-down and can be previewed before adding this to your course.

Important: To ensure your placeholders have been added correctly, we recommend that you test the new certificate by completing the course as an end user before assigning the course to all users.

Once you have confirmed that the certificate placeholders have populated correctly, then you can use the 'Update Targets' functionality to assign the course to all relevant users.

Below is an example of how the placeholders will be replaced once the user completes their assigned course:

2. System Certificate

Alternatively, you can use the MetaCompliance template certificate, which can be customised by adding your company logo.

  • To customise, navigate to Settings > Company Edit > Platform Customization.
  • Scroll down to the 'Certificate' section and enter a name for your certificate and upload your logo.

  • Once complete, scroll to the top and click Save Changes.
  • Your System Certificate can now be found within the 'Course Publish' area: navigate to Learning > Course Publish > Settings > Select Certificate Type.
  • The new certificate can be located within the System Certificate drop-down menu. Select Preview Certificate to preview prior to adding to your course.
