Course Certificates

Awarding Certificates Upon Course Completion

When assigning a course to users, you can award the user with a certificate of completion once they have successfully passed the course.

There are currently two available certificate options:

  1. Custom Certificate – Upload your company's own certificate template
  2. System Certificate – Use the MetaCompliance template certificate

Customising your Certificates

Both certificate options can be customised to align with your company's requirements.

1. Custom Certificate

You can upload your company’s certificate template to be presented to users upon completion of their assigned courses. This adds a personalised touch that can help drive engagement and adoption.

To use this option, you must follow the recommendations below regarding your certificate template and  required placeholders.

Placeholders (Important Guidelines)

  1. To populate the user’s information on the certificate, your certificate must include the following placeholders exactly as shown below:
    • [UserName]
    • [CourseName]
    • [Date]
  2. Placeholders must be added as text; they cannot be embedded within an image.
  3. Position placeholders towards the left of the certificate to prevent text from trailing off the PDF.
  4. We recommend that the background be white where the placeholder text has been positioned.
  5. Placeholders work best when placed on their own line to avoid overlapping with other text.
  6. Text will always begin at the start of the placeholder, so ensure the placeholder is positioned accordingly.
  7. The font size of the placeholder will determine the size of the text when replaced, so avoid fonts that are too big or too small.
  8. Test your certificate by completing a course before assigning it to users.

Uploading Your Certificate

  • Navigate to Settings > Certificates.
  • Select +Upload Certificate.

  • Enter the Certificate Name.
  • Upload your certificate in PDF format, ensuring all placeholder guidelines have been followed.
  • Once you have confirmed that your placeholders are present and aligned with the guidelines, check the confirmation box.
  • Finally, select Publish Certificate.

Please note: The system will not automatically validate placeholders. You must ensure they are correct before uploading any certificates.

Once successfully uploaded, your certificate will be available within the 'Course Publish' area.

  1. Navigate to Learning > Course Publish > Settings > Select Certificate Type > Custom Certificate.
  2. All uploaded certificates will be available within the certificate drop-down and can be previewed before added to your course.

Important: Before assigning the course to all users, test the certificate by completing the course as an end user to confirm that placeholders populate correctly.

Once verified, use the 'Update Targets' functionality to assign the course to all relevant users.

Example: A certificate with placeholders will display the user’s name, course title, and completion date once the course is completed.

2. System Certificate

Alternatively, you can use the MetaCompliance system certificate template, which allows for basic customisation such as adding your company logo.

To customise the System Certificate:

  • Navigate to Settings > Company Edit > Platform Customization.
  • Scroll to the 'Certificate' section.
  • Enter a certificate name for your certificate and upload your company logo.

  • Once complete, scroll to the top and click Save Changes.

Your System Certificate can now be found within the 'Course Publish' area:

  • Navigate to Learning > Course Publish > Settings > Select Certificate Type.
  • You can preview the certificate before assigning it to a course by selecting Preview Certificate from the dropdown menu.
