Embedded within the MetaPhish email, there is a small hidden image (1 pixel x 1 pixel).  Once this image is downloaded, it records an ‘Open’ audit for that user.  By using this image, we can track how a user has interacted with the MetaPhish email; this process is standard within Simulated Phishing Software products.

The image can be automatically downloaded once the user opens the email, depending on their Outlook settings, thereby recording an ‘Open’ audit at that point. 

Alternatively, the user can manually select to download the image once they have opened the email.
